Unveiling Worthwhile Skincare Investments & Beauty Secrets with Kaitlin Scharmann, LMA

To kick off 2024, Megan and Laura embarked on a quest to decode the secrets of beauty with the esteemed Kaitlin Scharmann, guru of all things skin-related. In this discussion, Kaitlin acknowledges a shift in skincare trends, moving away from rejuvenation towards prejuvenation, a proactive strategy centered on prevention rather than correction.

Consider this analogy: skincare is akin to a fitness regimen. Just as a single workout won't sculpt your physique, a sporadic application of moisturizer won't miraculously reverse signs of aging. Skincare is a long-term commitment, not a quick fix. Just as you wouldn't expect to excel in a marathon without training, consistent care is paramount for healthy skin. Kaitlin advises the most important thing to do for your skin is to commit to a consistent skincare routine at home. So, what's the 411 for a flawless complexion? Kaitlin's outlines a daily routine:

In the AM: Cleanser, vitamin C serum, moisturizer, sunscreen

In the PM: Cleanser, growth factor serum (if you use it), retinol serum, moisturizer

When considering what products to use, it is prudent to invest wisely, because skincare products can be expensive. Prioritize spending more on vitamin C and retinol serums supported by scientific research, like pharmaceutical-grade formulations renowned for their efficacy. Save money on cleansers you wash down the drain, moisturizers that are layered on top of serum, or sunscreen. Fear not, from the luxurious realms of cutting-edge medical-grade products to the humble shelves of the drugstore, there's something for everyone. Products loved by both Kaitlin and Laura include:

Kaitlin does not believe in spending a lot of money all at once. As the body's largest organ, the focus should be centered around caring for your skin over time. Beyond your daily skincare routine at home, Kaitlin is a big fan of laser treatments because light-based therapies help turn back time. For beginners, BBL is a minimal downtime laser that lifts pigment off the skin. Starting with a series of 3 BBLs over 3 months can dramatically improve the skin's tone. For more experienced patients, Kaitlin loves the Halo laser, both ablative and non-ablative, which penetrates deeper layers of the skin helping with pigmentation, fine lines, and the skin's texture. If fine lines or wrinkles are a patient's primary concern, Kaitlin also recommends Botox to reduce the appearance of those lines and better maintain a youthful appearance.

In the journey of combating the signs of aging, remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint. Just as we dedicate time and effort to maintain our overall health, caring for our skin requires patience and commitment.
