Hurdles to Highlights: Our First Year of Suburban Burnout

Looking back over the last year, Megan and I reflect on what it has been like to launch Suburban Burnout. Spoiler alert: it's been one wild and hilarious ride!

When Megan floated her podcast idea, I thought it was brilliant—for her. Megan, with her life coaching charisma and social media prowess, seemed born for this. She's never met a camera or a crowd she didn't love. So, when she asked me to co-host, my jaw nearly hit the floor. Me? The social media recluse? But after some serious soul-searching, I slipped on my big girl panties, faced my fear of internet trolls, and decided to stop cringing at the sound of my voice. And thank goodness I did! The past year has been a whirlwind of unexpected fun, endless laughter, and more personal growth than I ever imagined.

Neither of us truly knew what we were getting into when we started this podcast journey. Let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart. We've learned to navigate recording equipment, selected the perfect virtual studio, and mastered sound quality tweaks. We've become pros at creating catchy social media clips, writing blogs, scheduling guest speakers, and diving deep into research to produce top-notch content. Oh, and did I mention marketing strategies and hosting in-person events? It's a lot. Like, "I-need-three-more-coffees" a lot.

We don't have a fancy production team—it's just us, juggling this podcast gig while holding down other jobs and rocking our main roles as Wives and Moms. But because we divide and conquer, and more importantly, have a blast working together, our little passion project is thriving. The key? Consistency, forethought, and a hefty dose of humor.

So here's to the first year of Suburban Burnout! It's been a year of learning curves, late-night editing sessions, and plenty of laughs. We can't wait to see what the next year brings. Stay tuned, because if this past year is any indication, it's going to be one heck of a ride.

xoxo,

Laura & Megan
